Financial Counselling

Jacaranda Financial Counselling Service

Jacaranda provides free and independent Financial Counselling service. The service includes assistance with budgeting, consumer credit contract issues and debt negotiation with utilities, Housing, etc. The first priority is for those clients on Compulsory Income Management, Voluntary Income Management and then normal financial counselling. The Money Management course is also included as a part of this program

Currently Jacaranda is funded by the Department of Social Services and the Department of Communities.

The Department of Communities fund is for Aboriginal Financial Counselling Outreach Service (AFCOS). The program covers the Perth Southeast metro – from Belmont to Armadale, but can include other areas depending on appointment availability. A Financial Counsellor attends the outreach office in Armadale on Thursdays and Fridays. In addition to this, we are looking at the possibility of having another outreach office in Langford from 2019. This service is available only to people with Aboriginal background.

The DSS Financial Counselling is for the southeast corridor (Belmont to Armadale). The program is mainly for CaLD and Non-Indigenous clients but can cover anyone in southeast corridor if appointment is available. Aboriginal Financial Counselling Outreach Service (AFCOS) is available for Aboriginal clients in southeast.

The DSS Financial Counselling and Capability Hub is for the southwest corridor. The program is run from St Pats and the Department for Communities – Housing Fremantle.

For appointment and referral please contact our reception on 9477 4346.

Emergency Relief

Emergency relief is given to assist people who are in financial crisis and those clients participating in financial counselling or as part of the Family Support Program.  This may include power, gas, food, food vouchers, rent arrears and medical assistance. The ER is given as a part of a case management process where the client sees a financial counsellor for a financial assessment.

Currently we have funding with the Commonwealth Government as well as from Lotterywest. The Federal Government Emergency Relief is subject to Government distribution and there is no guarantee of funding or amount given. Lotterywest Emergency Relief is applied for annually with no guarantee of continuation.

People who live in and around Belmont are our first priority but we may be able to assist other people if enough funding is available.  We now cover all areas covered by CPFS and DSS funding.
