Past Events
NAIDOC
NAIDOC is celebrated each July by Jacaranda, with the help of the local Aboriginal community, volunteers and TAFE Community Services students.
For these special events, the aboriginal community consistently have given us everything we need for a successful time. They went shopping for the food, organised the baking of many dampers at 4am in the morning and some fabulous kangaroo roasts and stews. Others arrived at the office at 8am to prepare all the salads, and assisted in the kitchens at the park all day. Others organised all the entertainment for us.
We have had local people entertaining us. Last year, the Indich boys danced an opening dance with Derrick Nannup from Yirra Yaakin Noongar Theatre playing the digeridoo. The boys are local and always assist us at our functions. Their mother Irene Indich is on our commitee, Derrick is related and Reno James usually sings.
We are currently working out a name for them and hope that they obtain more regular work. We are keen to support Indigenous Youth in these kinds of endeavours

HARMONY DAYS AND CULTURAL CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS
As with NAIDOC, the local Aboriginal community is at the centre of these community celebrations of diversity
